The Annapurna 100 is a gruelling 100 kilometre race throughout the Annapurna Mountain range, although with spectacular scenery, it’s not without a demanding course.

Bed Sunuwar, off his 2nd place finish at the Vibram 100 in Hong Kong, started this race with one goal, to win! He ran side by side the entire race with his compatriot, Bhim Bdr Gurung. It wasn’t the first time these two talented athletes have faced off, as it was only four months ago at the Oxfam Trailwalker 100 in Hong Kong that they were racing against each other. On that occasion, Bhim’s Team Colombia got the better of Bed and his fellow Team Nepal members.

These two guys kept pushing each other the entire race, until only metres from the finish, Bhim put on a burst of speed and crossed the line only two seconds ahead of Bed, who once again had to be content with his third second place finish in the space of four months.

Team Nepal had a single female runner in Manikala Rai competing. Manikala ran a smart race, an ended finishing as the first female home, by nearly one hour. She is having a great string of results lately, hopefully she can continue her great form throughout 2014.

Rested after his win at The North face 100 in Hong Kong, Purna Tamang competed in the Annpurna 50 kilometre race. Still on a high from his first international victory, he controlled the race from the start, with only Hom Lal Shrestha being able to stay with this speedy runner. But in the end, Purna ran clear towards the end of the race to finish in a rapid time of 3:32 hours, one minute ahead of Hom Lal.

More great results from Team Nepal, this time on home soil.
